WHAT IS IT?
The Bay of Plenty Music School is an annual event, held over the last weekend of the Term 1 school holidays at various centres around the Bay of Plenty. It caters for choral, orchestral and band musicians of GRADE 5 or higher, providing a unique learning and working opportunity in a relaxed atmosphere under the guidance of experienced conductors and section leaders. This builds towards a performance on the Sunday afternoon.
The music committee are pleased to host this popular event for 2025 in Taupō. More than 100 musicians took part in 2024, with numbers growing each year. Space in some sections is limited (with preference given to BOP and Waikato musicians, but open to anyone), so register your interest early if you are keen!

ONCE UPON A TIME...
The Music School was started in 1966 in Whakatane by Stanley Farnsworth and has evolved to be the longest surviving music school in New Zealand. It has always relied on sponsorship for a heavily subsidised entry fee, making participation affordable to everyone.
